As Freelance Head of Communication & Public Affairs, you will lead the communication strategy and media relations of an international banking association representing the sector across Europe and globally.You will work closely with the CEO and Deputy CEO, managing executive communication, media relations, and key institutional messaging. In addition, you will oversee major campaigns and events while leading a small communication team.

Job Description

As Freelance head of communications & public affairs, you will :

  • Lead and execute the communication and public affairs strategy
  • Manage media relations, press outreach, and communication with journalists in Belgium and at the European level
  • Prepare speeches, talking points, and key messaging for the CEO and Deputy CEO
  • Oversee the drafting and distribution of press releases and communication materials
  • Supervise and manage the communication team (3 junior staff members + 1 trainee)
  • Supervise communication campaigns and major events
  • Manage the CEO's media agenda and visibility strategy
  • Support the preparation of reports and publications for member associations

The Successful Applicant

As Freelance head of communications & public affairs, you have :

  • Strong experience in communications within the banking or financial sector
  • Proven experience in public affairs, ideally involving European institutions
  • Solid network and understanding of media in Belgium and Brussels
  • Experience managing teams (important for this role)
  • Excellent writing and executive communication skills (speeches, statements, press materials)
  • Fluent English required (international environment)
