Our client has multiple office locations, this position could operate in both Leuven & Wallonia - flexible working policy in terms of home office.

Job Description

In this role, you will be part of the Legal & Regulatory team. You will act as a trusted advisor for the Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Operations departments on legal matters. Together with the other legal advisors, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal support to ensure the company's overall compliance with the broad legal and regulatory framework related to energy, consumer protection, and retail activities.
  • Proactively identifying changes in the legal and regulatory framework applicable to the energy sector (energy transition, EU energy package, new codes of conduct, etc.).
  • Assisting the operational departments with the implementation of regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvements.
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts, assisting in contractual negotiations and litigation when necessary, and liaising directly with external lawyers.
  • Managing relationships with various stakeholders (regulators, DSOs, industry federation Febeg, government agencies, law firms, consumer organizations, politicians, etc.) and actively participating in external meetings.
  • Identifying business opportunities within the company's various departments and supporting the company through proactive lobbying.

The Successful Applicant

  • You hold a master's degree in law.
  • You have minimum 3 years of relevant experience in consumer and contract law, preferably as an in-house counsel in the energy sector or another strongly regulated sector.
  • You are passionate by the energy market, its mechanisms, its key actors and its evolution.
  • You have strong communication skills and you are able to explain complex (legal) issues in a simple and concise way to the different departments and other stakeholders.
  • You are enthusiastic, rigorous, hands-on, pro-active, analytical, pragmatic and result oriented.
  • You can work autonomous but you are also willing to share your knowledge and work in a highly collaborative team.
  • You are fluent in Dutch and have a good knowledge of English and/or French.
