As Legal Counsel, you will act as a key legal partner with a strong focus on data protection, which represents approximately +/- half of the role. You will complement this with hands-on involvement in commercial, ICT and outsourcing contracts, supporting the business with pragmatic, risk-aware legal advice.

Job Description

As a Legal Counsel your responsibilities are:

Data Protection - ±50% of the role

  • Act as a legal reference for GDPR and Belgian data protection legislation
  • Advise on data protection compliance across business and digital initiatives
  • Draft, review and negotiate data processing and data protection agreements
  • Take ownership of keeping privacy notices and statements up to date
  • Monitor legislative developments, case law and doctrine in close collaboration with the DPO
  • Support the management of data breaches and data protection incidents



Contract, Commercial & ICT Law - ±50% of the role

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial, ICT, cloud and outsourcing agreements
  • Identify contractual risks and define mitigation strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Provide clear and pragmatic advice to internal stakeholders on commercial law matters
  • Ensure contractual compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies



Regulatory & Digital Law

  • Advise on DORA requirements related to ICT risk and third-party providers
  • Monitor and interpret the EU AI Act and its contractual implications
  • Support compliance in cloud services, outsourcing and digital governance
  • Advise on cybersecurity and operational resilience clauses



The Successful Applicant

A successful Legal Counsel should have:

  • Master's degree in Law
  • As from 5 years of experience (mandatory criteria)
  • Strong experience in data protection (GDPR) is essential
  • Solid background in commercial contracts and ICT law
  • Analytical mindset with strong risk assessment capabilities
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Tech-oriented and interested in digital innovation
  • Fluent in English, Dutch and French
